Canon Iteration Explanation: As far as I know, TFS is canon, no AUs.

❥ Folkmore Roles & Attributes

Skills: Combat, combat, more combat; melee, unarmed, swordsmanship, semiautomatic rifles. Strategy, materia usage, more fighting for variety, a working knowledge of most dangerous monsters on his planet, basic wilderness survival instruction though it's not practical experience.
Canon Abilities: Sephiroth is a genetically engineered and modified human, who thanks to mako based science shenanigans and alien DNA at even fourteen years old is far faster, stronger and more durable than any human has a right to be. He's capable of taking on a dozen well armed adults at the same time and cut them down within seconds (alongside their vehicles) without breaking a sweat, fall great distances with no harm to show for it, and generally treats gravity like it's an option without actually levitating around. In another fifteen years he can annihilate armies, but right now his abilities are merely dangerously lethal.
Role: Legend
Role Qualities/Attributes: My intention is to give him owl-like wings, emotion changing eye color, Possibly a halo (but faint if I do), and a sixth sense for helping people. While he is ALREADY incredibly durable, strong and intensely tolerant to pain, any boons he gains from being a Legend in these areas will be minor in comparison to what others might gain, putting him at the end a bit closer in resilience and power to his adult self but still somewhere below it.
Role Reasoning: Before Sephiroth goes coo-coo for cocoa puffs, he's not at all a bad person. And even at such a young age, he displays a consideration and kindness to others that, while shown awkwardly, keeps turning up again and again. He's strongly motivated to help people, especially those under his command, and if it means putting himself in danger to do it, that's just how it goes. And while he personally detests his role in Shinra's machinations as a posterboy for SOLDIER, he also allows it to happen, because it's his duty no matter how personally embarrassing it is. That for the most part this duty is things he's already inclined to do, such as protect people, makes it much easier, but even without the drive of orders, he'd help anyway.. even when it's directly against those same orders. Where his team goes, he goes; he might only be a boy but already his loyalties run deep. Selfishness doesn't enter the equation.

❥ Personality

Option 1.
Almost every facet of his personality, likes and dislikes are shaped directly by Shinra's influence; being raised by the government and taught what they wanted him to know, this led to a stagnation of certain abilities, such as any sense of being able to socialize properly with pretty much anyone. This ... limits things. But he can manage to interact with people on some level - he tends to seem arrogant and somewhat disdaining of people he speaks to, something that's occasionally truth and more frequently a careful mask to prevent anyone from knowing what he's really thinking or feeling. But when one gets down to it, Sephiroth doesn't much like interacting with normal people. When one is told from birth that they are superior to everyone around them, and they have the skills and power to prove it, it does tend to stick. So, in this process of not being at all sociable and viewing them with something of an edge of superiority (he doesn't really dislike most people either, as that would take a more personal regard than he cares to give), he can and frequently does seem well, snobbish. It doesn't line up with how he acts, though. He's mindful of the needs and worries of others, and goes out of his way to aid if it's an ally or an innocent, even if such things are not the wisest ideas at the time. He knows most people aren't as strong or as durable as he is, and easily and unthinkingly makes allowances for it even on the battlefield. Fourteen he might be, but he doesn't hesitate to place himself directly between others and danger.

Like all children, he had dreams once. Ideals, hopes, the usual, but they were beaten out of him young, very literally. Having achievements simply made up about him in order to make him out to be some Ideal Hero for others to idolize took care of the rest. Whatever being a real hero is, it's not him, half lab rat, half poster boy full of invented achievements. It's left him favoring facts and realities of the here and now, and he's highly cynical for one so young, always preparing for worst case scenarios before even considering the idea that the best might work out. Although undeniably brilliant and with the ability to conceptualize things beyond the average person's knowing, the abstract is alien and uncomfortable; he'll take structured familiarity over it any day. This doesn't mean he avoids new things. If it's not just a frivolous idea, if it's a workable concept of something solid grounded in reality, he'll be quite attentive indeed, and he's a good student and a voracious learner when something does line up with what he expects or feels he must do. While it's very difficult to sway his opinions, in the rare occasions he's put his trust in someone, they tend to have far more leeway than he grants others - if anyone's going to make the child soldier change his mind, it'll be some close ally.

But he's a child still. There's impulses to kindness, an untrained and unhoned desire to help that hasn't yet been trained out or regulated away; while he might wish to do anything other than be a SOLDIER and live a normal life, he never walks away from it. Knowing his reputation is all lies means he has serious issues with his own image, and loathes being seen as the 'golden child' of the SOLDIER program. Since he is so young, those he's put in command of struggle to see him as anything but a kid, and he struggles to be seen as more than that. For all that he knows his role is to be the face of SOLDIER, he is wildly uncomfortable with being in the public eye and walls off that discomfort with neutrality or a careful mask of the superiority that's expected of him.

WITHOUT the weight of Shinra's expectations and the role picked out for him, Sephiroth has the unprecedented opportunity to experience life the way anyone else does. He doesn't know what that would mean for him, all he knows about his potential is what he's SUPPOSED to be, a great war hero and a figure for others to look up to. He knows how to accomplish that, or at least how to seem like he's accomplished it, but anything not already dictated as his life? It's a mystery. But so close are his ties to his ruthless upbringing that he's never really even spent time imagining it could be different. If he could choose, if the Jenova in his blood can be denied and madness is kept at bay, he could well step into that role with an open heart instead of resentment and bitterness, and strive to be more and do better not because it's expected but because he chooses to.

Having a choice changes everything.
